Asked about the dawn of the Erik ten Hag era last month, Marcus Rashford said: “For me it is a fresh start, something I am looking forward to.” Now, after a tumultuous pre-season, a deflating defeat to Brighton and much flailing about in the market by the Manchester United hierarchy, we’re about to find out whether he still feels the same. According to L’Equipe, Paris Saint-Germain have the England international in their sights. Speaking earlier this week, Christophe Galtier, the latest manager tasked with crafting a coherent team out of vast stacks of Qatar’s money, confirmed: “We want another striker to come in. With a busy schedule, we want arrivals.”
United, meanwhile, are still thrashing about desperately in search of their next signing. Sasa Kalajdzic is the latest forward to be touted for a move to Old Trafford, but, in another absurd turn of events, it seemed Ralf Rangnick, now Kalajdzic’s manager at international level, has suggested the Austria international would be better off sticking with VfB Stuttgart. “It is important that Sasa remains injury-free this season and trains and plays at the highest possible level,” said Rangnick, in quotes carried by Sky Germany. “If he stays in Stuttgart this season, it will not be detrimental to his development.”
Over at the Etihad, things seem relatively serene. Manchester City are still in the market for a left-back, however, with the departure of Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal leaving Pep Guardiola without the overwhelming strength in depth he has become accustomed to. Having spent a meagre £93m this summer while racking up cash from player sales, no doubt he can stretch his budget a little further. Renan Lodi is one of the names on his shortlist, while he has also been credited with an interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Raphaël Guerreiro.
Then there’s Kieran Tierney which, given that Mikel Arteta has only just struck a delicate competitive balance at left-back by signing Zinchenko, would effectively be an act of vandalism. Admittedly, though, it would also be very funny. Meanwhile, City are edging closer to a deal for Sergio Gómez, another left-back, for a fee which could rise as high as €15m (£12.7m). At 21, the Anderlecht youngster will presumably come in as back-up.
Elsewhere, it seems that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would prefer to stay at Barcelona than move to Chelsea. Xavi still rates the former Arsenal man and would rather pull the economic lever known as Memphis Depay instead, with Tottenham and Juventus among those linked with the Netherlands international.
Having only just agreed to make Remo Freuler their 14th signing of the summer, Nottingham Forest are now looking for their 15th. They have offered Watford around £20m for Emmanuel Dennis, who produced a reasonable return of 10 goals in 33 appearances in the Premier League last season. Forest face stiff competition for another target, Emerson Palmieri, who is wanted by Atalanta having previously impressed in Serie A with Roma.
Everton also look set for a busy spell, with Southampton’s Che Adams and Rennes’ Serhou Guirassy on their radar. Of course, Frank Lampard won’t want to “Che” over the odds! No, but seriously, it’s very important they get their transfer business done as soon as possible.

West Ham United have submitted an audacious bid in the region of £25million for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes.
However, the Portuguese club are reportedly demanding a minimum of £42million for the talented 23-year-old, as reported by Record.
That price would make Nunes - who is also a target for Wolves - West Ham's second biggest transfer fee after they paid £45million for Sebastien Haller in 2018.
Nunes does have a £51million release clause in his contract but no club currently looks likely of meeting that valuation for the player.
Chelsea have also registered their interest but are yet to submit a bid, while fellow Premier League outfit Wolves are also interested in acquiring Nunes' signature, however the Brazilian doesn't favour a move to join the Midlands club.
Liverpool were previously keeping tabs on the playmaker but pulled out of a move despite the club's current injury crisis in midfield.
Nunes impressed in last season's Champions League and shone so bright that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola even singled him out for praise.
The Manchester City manager said: 'I would say that Matheus Nunes is one of the best players in the world today.'
Lisbon view their player as a traditional No 8-style box-to-box player, an area that West Ham have lacked creativity in with Declan Rice viewed as the type of player that would allow Nunes to thrive in attacking areas.
Sporting have often leaned towards a 3-4-3 or 4-2-3-1 with Nunes at times being deployed on the left side of the central two.
Nunes has also caught the attention through his exquisite range of passing - offering long-range balls across the pitch as well as close and connected passes.
Interestingly, Nunes is a client of Jorge Mendes' Gestifute agency and it was Mendes who met with Boehly recently with the topic of a move for Cristiano Ronaldo on the agenda.

West Ham remain in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a deal for Thilo Kehrer after the Ligue 1 champions rejected an opening proposal from the Irons. The London Stadium hierarchy remain determined to strike an agreement for the German international defender, although they will have to raise their offer and see off interest from Sevilla in order to push a transfer over the line.
Kehrer is thought to be open to a move to West Ham as he seeks regular football ahead of November's World Cup in Qatar.
Replying to a supporter on Twitter, Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has shared a potential boost for the Hammers in their bid to sign the Germany international.
When asked if Kehrer would be interested in joining West Ham this summer, the reporter simply replied ‘yes’ – gifting West Ham supporters what could be a significant update as the player’s stance becomes known.
The Hammers remain in negotiations with the French giants and are expected to raise their opening offer imminently after initially tabling around £10million.
Sevilla are also at the table but so far neither club are yet to satisfy PSG's £16m valuation of the 25-year-old.
West Ham are in the market for additional cover at centre-back after sanctioning the £15m departure of Issa Diop to Fulham.
The club have also held talks over move for Fenerbahce defender Attila Szalai, who is deemed capable of playing at both centre-back and left-back.
Szalai caught the eye for his national side Hungary in their two Nations League victories over England at the back end of last season.
Russian side Zenit St-Petersburg are also interested in the 24-year-old as Fenerbahce continue to discuss a potential deal with both interested parties.
Sources have told Express Sport that Fenerbahce have discussed West Ham's interest with the player ahead of the Europa League play-off second-leg against FC Slovacko in Brno, Czech Republic.
It's understood that West Ham's pursuit of Kehrer is not directly related to their interest in Szalai and signing both players is not out of the equation.
Leicester City full-back Luke Thomas has also attracted admirers at West Ham, who are yet to firm up their interest with a formal offer.

Ex urges faithful to keep an eye on Dieng

ExWHUemployee has claimed that West Ham United might reconsider going in for Bamba Dieng this summer.
There have been reports from 90min that claim West Ham United are interested in luring Bamba Dieng to the club this summer, but other Premier League sides are also interested in his services.
Dieng was in impressive form last season for Olympique Marseille, he featured 25 times in Ligue 1 where he scored seven goals and chipped in with three assists, at just 22 years old.
With West Ham being linked to Dieng this summer, ExWHUemployee claimed that his current side have said that he can leave and he is a player worth keeping an eye on for the Hammers this summer.
“Another player worth keeping an eye on is Bamba Dieng of Marseille. The forward can play across the front line and we have had an interest in him before. It is rumoured that his club have said he can leave. Whilst I don’t believe we have made any moves for him now, he is someone that Moyes might reconsider,” Ex said.

Dieng, who has been called one of the potential ‘bargains of the summer’, is a 22-year-old that can play anywhere across the front three but have featured primarily down the middle for Marseille, so he can provide competition/backup for Michail Antonio and new signing Gianluca Scamacca.
The Hammers were also short on options out wide, but David Moyes opted to bring in Maxwel Cornet, so again Dieng could provide much-needed cover in that area of the pitch for West Ham.
West Ham have made five additions this summer, but after a defeat on the opening day of the season against Manchester City, Moyes might feel like he wants to make a few more signings before the transfer window shuts, and with Ex claiming that his current club have said that he can leave, Dieng could be a suitable option.
